Jharkhand worker stranded in UAE; Family seeks Govt help

Giridih

Cases of migrant workers from Jharkhand being stranded or facing distress abroad continue to surface, leaving families back home anxious and vulnerable. In a fresh incident, a worker from Bagodar block in Giridih district is reportedly stuck in Saudi Arabia for the past six months, prompting his family to appeal to the government for assistance.

Mahendra Mahto, a resident of Khetko village under Bagodar police station limits, had travelled to Saudi Arabia in search of employment. However, he has allegedly been unable to return home and is facing severe difficulties.

His family, including his wife, elderly parents and three children, are struggling to make ends meet in his absence. His wife said they remain in contact, but he is in a distressed situation and desperate to return to India. “Every passing moment is becoming difficult for him as he tries to come back home,” she said.

Social activist Sikandar Ali, who works for the welfare of migrant labourers, has urged the authorities to intervene and facilitate Mahendra Mahto’s safe return. He highlighted that while lakhs of workers migrate abroad in search of livelihood, many end up facing exploitation and harsh working conditions.

Ali also stressed the need for the government to create more employment opportunities locally to curb migration and ensure the safety and dignity of workers.

The incident once again underscores the growing concerns around the plight of migrant workers from the region and the urgent need for stronger support systems.
