Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji on Tuesday expressed happiness over the conferment of the Padma Bhushan on late tribal leader and Jharkhand movement icon Shibu Soren, saying the honour has brought pride to the state and the nation.
Speaking to the media, Maji said it was a matter of great pride for the party, the state and the entire country that “Dishom Guru” Shibu Soren has been awarded the Padma Bhushan posthumously. She added that the decision has created an atmosphere of joy across Jharkhand, with people from all sections celebrating the recognition.
However, she remarked that considering Soren’s lifelong struggle for jal, jungle, zameen (water, forest and land), his fight against exploitative practices, and his contribution to safeguarding the identity and rights of tribal communities, the honour should have been conferred much earlier.
Maji further demanded that Shibu Soren be awarded the Bharat Ratna, stating that he was a voice for the oppressed and marginalized sections of society and his contribution to the formation of Jharkhand was historic.
On the occasion, she also shared sweets with women and party workers, celebrating the recognition of the veteran leader’s legacy.
