A delegation of the Jharkhand Police Association (Federation), led by its state president Rahul Kumar Murmu, visited Deoghar, Dumka and Rail Dhanbad between August 4 and 8 to review the problems faced by police personnel deployed for law and order duties during the Shravani Mela 2026.
The delegation met senior officials in the three districts and raised issues concerning duty rotation, accommodation and transfers of police personnel.
In Deoghar, the delegation met the Superintendent of Police and sought a proper shift-wise duty rotation for officers deployed at Baba Baidyanath Dham. It also met the Deputy Commissioner and proposed construction of a permanent 1,000-bed facility to accommodate police personnel deployed during the annual Shravani Mela. The Deputy Commissioner assured the delegation that necessary steps would be taken.
In Dumka, the delegation met the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner and sought construction of a 500-bed accommodation facility at the Jarmundi police station campus for personnel deployed at Baba Basukinath Dham. The officials assured them of further action.
During a meeting with the Pakur Deputy Commissioner, the delegation highlighted the accommodation difficulties faced by police personnel visiting the district headquarters for official work, as well as families of deceased personnel and retired police officers. The Deputy Commissioner assured that a suitable accommodation facility would be constructed at the Nagar police station premises or another appropriate location.
Police personnel also raised demands including transfer of officers who have completed 10 years in the same district or unit, provision for parental or choice-based district transfers for those with less than two years of service, and timely disposal of pending applications submitted to the police headquarters.
The association said it would again approach the police headquarters for resolution of these issues.
The delegation included state general secretary Sanjeev Kumar, senior vice-president Mohammad Mehtab Alam and senior joint secretary Santosh Kumar Mahato, among others.
