A Jharkhand Police constable was killed and three other policemen were seriously injured after their official vehicle rammed into a parked trailer on National Highway-19 near Barwa Adda in Dhanbad on Tuesday morning.
The police team from Chalkusha Police Station in Hazaribagh district was returning after conducting a raid in Maithon to arrest an accused. The suspect, however, could not be apprehended.
According to police, the accident occurred when the police vehicle collided with a trailer parked along the roadside in the Barwa Adda police station area. The impact was severe, leaving the vehicle badly damaged.
The deceased has been identified as Ram Lakhan Yadav (50), who died on the spot. The injured policemen—Naresh Yadav, Hari Paswan, and driver Gaurav Kumar—were initially taken to Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) before being referred to Asarfi Hospital for advanced treatment.
Police officials reached the hospital soon after the incident and launched an investigation into the crash.
Vinod Kurju, Assistant Sub-Inspector at the SNMMCH Police Outpost, confirmed that the team was returning from a raid in Maithon when the accident occurred.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
