SAIL Chairman reviews mining operations in J’khand, Odisha

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Chairman and Managing Director Dr. A.K. Panda reviewed the mining operations of the Jharkhand Group of Mines (JGOM) and Odisha Group of Mines (OGOM), emphasizing safety, production enhancement and technology-driven growth. During the visit, he inspected operations at Barsua, Taldih, Kalta, Bolani, Gua, Kiriburu and Meghahatuburu iron ore mines, interacted with employees and reiterated that safety must remain the highest priority in all mining activities.
Dr. Panda later chaired a review meeting with senior officials of JGOM and OGOM at the Learning and Development Centre in Kiriburu, where discussions focused on mine development, production growth, project execution, digital transformation and operational excellence.
Reaffirming SAIL’s goal of achieving 35 million tonnes of crude steel production capacity by 2030-31, he said the company aims to produce 100 million tonnes of iron ore annually from its captive mines to support future steel production. He also stressed the wider adoption of AI and other digital technologies to improve productivity, strengthen safety and promote sustainable mining, while reaffirming SAIL’s commitment to long-term growth and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
