Over 34,000 apply for UG admissions at SKMU for 2026-29 session

Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) has recorded an overwhelming response to undergraduate admissions for the 2026-29 academic session, with more than 34,000 students successfully completing the application process through the Chancellor Portal.
According to figures released by the university on Tuesday evening, 34,100 applicants had locked their choices after completing the required fee payment. Another 3,946 applications remained pending due to incomplete payment, with the online application window set to close on Wednesday, July 8.
The university will publish its first merit list on July 11, while document verification and enrolment will begin at respective colleges from July 13. Officials have advised applicants to keep all academic documents ready to ensure a smooth admission process.
The admission drive covers 43 institutions across the six districts of the Santhal Pargana division—Dumka, Deoghar, Sahibganj, Pakur, Jamtara and Godda. These include 27 constituent colleges and 16 affiliated colleges.
Among individual institutions, A.S. College, Deoghar, received the highest number of applications at 3,627, followed by A.N. College with 2,891 and S.B.S.S.P.S.J. College, Pathargama, with 2,870. Deoghar College and Santhal Pargana College, Dumka, also attracted significant student interest with 2,644 and 2,599 applications, respectively.
Humanities continues to dominate student preferences, with History emerging as the most sought-after subject, attracting nearly 8,600 applicants. Hindi ranked second with around 6,900 preferences, followed by Political Science with approximately 5,000.
University authorities said they are committed to conducting the admission process in a transparent and time-bound manner. Verification teams have been deployed across colleges to facilitate timely enrolment and ensure the new academic session begins without delay.
